Standard Chartered has delivered a step change in how digital bancassurance experiences are designed, governed and scaled.
For many clients, purchasing insurance through digital channels can still feel fragmented, with journeys that move between the bank and insurer, inconsistent interfaces, and limited continuity from discovery to purchase. Standard Chartered set out to change that by making protection easier to access, understand, compare, and act on within the digital banking channels clients already know and trust.
By retaining ownership of journey design, orchestration, client engagement, and governance, the bank created a more consistent, trusted, and scalable insurance experience within its core digital channels. Clients can move from awareness to purchase within familiar banking environments, supported by clearer journeys, consistent standards and stronger experience controls.
The transformation also materially improved speed of execution. Through a reusable and scalable delivery model, Standard Chartered reduced launch timelines from approximately six months for one product to seven insurance products delivered within five months. This improved speed to market while maintaining consistency, security, compliance, and quality of client experience.
At the heart of this model are reusable journey components and standardised CX guardrails across disclosures, consent, eligibility rules, and user experience patterns. This allows the bank to scale propositions more efficiently while reducing dependency on insurer-led front-end changes and preserving a single bank-owned experience across products and partners.
The result is not simply a smoother insurance journey, but a stronger digital bancassurance platform designed for future growth. Having established this foundation through Lifestyle Protection and General Insurance, Standard Chartered is now positioned to extend the same experience model into broader protection categories, including Health and Life insurance, without redesigning the core client journey.
“Insurance should not feel separate from banking. Our ambition was to make protection easier for clients to discover, understand and act on within the digital channels they already trust. By taking ownership of the experience, we have built a model that is more consistent for clients, faster for the business to scale, and stronger as a platform for future growth.”, said Gautam Duggal, Global Head, Bancassurance, Standard Chartered.
