For many banks, cheque clearing remains one of the most manually intensive operations processes. At Patterns Cognitive, the Dexter Outward Clearing team is helping banks leverage the power of artificial intelligence to automate such critical banking functions, delivering faster processing, stronger fraud controls, and significantly improved operational efficiency.
Led by Deputy CEO Narayana Kumar, the team developed the Dexter Visual Cheque Processing AI Solution for Outward Clearing, which has been deployed at several leading banks in the UAE, including Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD). Delivered in just three months, the implementation demonstrates how AI and cognitive automation can streamline complex banking workflows without compromising accuracy or compliance.
The team built an end-to-end intelligent clearing solution that combines computer vision-based image analysis, automated signature verification, Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) data capture, and intelligent pattern recognition to improve straight-through processing (STP). The platform has now significantly reduced the manual efforts in processing outward cheque volumes, supporting around one million cheque cases annually while maintaining near-zero failed cases of approximately 0.01%. AI-powered validation also delivers 99.25% signature-presence detection and 98.79% MICR capture accuracy, significantly increasing adherence to turnaround times (TAT) and strengthening risk management.
“The opportunity to implement Dexter at CBD was a challenging experience, and a quick and successful delivery was made possible only through the collaborative efforts of the bank’s operations, technology and the Patterns Outward Clearing team,” says Suhail Ahmed, Senior Software Engineer and Team Lead at Patterns Cognitive.
Patterns Cognitive plans to expand its geographical outreach and build Digital Back Offices (DBOs) for banks, comprising its portfolio of generative AI-powered digital workers, extended to complex and manual work-intensive banking verticals such as trade finance, corporate banking and treasury operations.
