[Spotlight] NBE embeds AI across its business lines

The National Bank of Egypt’s AI team plays a significant role in the digital transformation, by optimising data directly into core operations rather than limiting AI to experimental projects or standalone automation.

The team oversees the full AI development lifecycle, from analysing large financial datasets and building machine learning models to deploying intelligent agents that can execute multi-step workflows. Through advanced machine learning operation practices, it continuously monitors performance, ensures regulatory compliance and refines models to maintain scalability and reliability across the organisation.

One of the team’s key achievements is an AI-powered end to end customer life cycle designed to personalise engagement. By combining customer demographics, product holdings, transaction behaviour and engagement signals, the platform generates “next best action” recommendations. This enables NBE to deliver relevant products and services at the right time, replacing broad-based outreach with a more precise, data-driven approach that identifies customer needs and opportunities dynamically.

The AI team has also developed a cash management model through a forecasting solution to improve branch service quality. Using AI forecasting techniques, the system provides daily cash limit recommendations for each branch, helping optimise cash distribution while reducing shortages, excess holdings and transportation costs. The initiative aims to ensure customers have access to the cash they need without delays or repeated visits.

NBE has also strengthened document verification processes through AI-enabled validation capabilities that accelerate approvals, reduce manual reviews and improve compliance. The result is a faster, more seamless customer experience with negligible interruptions during banking interactions, which has led to the optimization of the daily workflow.
