The merger of Shin Kong Life Insurance and Taishin Life Insurance creates a NTD 4trillion insurer that aims to leverage complementary products and distribution channels under a long-established brand.
Shin Kong Life Insurance and Taishin Life Insurance, both operating under TS Financial Holdings Co., completed their merger on 1 January 2026, marking a major consolidation within Taiwan’s life insurance sector. Under the transaction, Taishin Life Insurance remains the surviving legal entity but has adopted the Shin Kong Life Insurance name, preserving a brand with more than six decades of history in the local market.
The newly formed board has appointed Paul Wei as chairman, with Hung Shih-chi taking on the role of vice chairman, while Huang Min-yi has been named president to lead day-to-day management. Together, the leadership team is tasked with steering the enlarged insurer through its next phase of integration and growth.
With combined assets exceeding NTD 4 trillion, equivalent to around $128 billion, the merged company intends to align its product offerings and make fuller use of its complementary sales and distribution networks. Management has signalled that greater emphasis will be placed on cross-selling opportunities within the wider financial holding group, alongside efforts to diversify channels, improve operational efficiency through digitalisation, deepen customer engagement and pursue long-term, sustainable management practices aimed at safeguarding policyholders’ wellbeing and financial security.
The merger brings together two insurers with distinct but complementary strengths, combining Shin Kong Life’s established presence in traditional life, health, accident and investment-linked insurance with Taishin Life’s capabilities in investment-linked, interest-sensitive and participating products.
