Mignonne Cheng, a highly respected private banking veteran with over 40 years of financial sector experience, will join Bank J. Safra Sarasin as Chairman for Asia.
Mignonne Cheng was most recently the Asia Chairman of BNP Paribas Wealth Management. During her 30 years of tenure with BNP Paribas, she had held various senior management roles with the French group, including General Manager for the Chinese Division, Head of North Asia and CEO of BNP Paribas Hong Kong branch, and in 2010, she was appointed Chairman and CEO of BNP Paribas Wealth Management for Asia Pacific and a member of the Executive Committee of BNP Paribas Wealth Management.
Prior to joining BNP Paribas in 1990, she had previously spent 18 years with Chase Manhattan Bank Hong Kong branch, where she took on various senior positions including Head of Credit Department, Group Head of the Commercial Banking Group and Head of Corporate Finance, M&A and Investment Banking.
Mignonne Cheng was active in the public sector where she was a member of the Banking Advisory Committee chaired by The Honourable John Tsang, ex-Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“HKSAR”), and had served as a member of The Consultative Committee of the Basic Law of the HKSAR between 1985 and 1989. Cheng was bestowed the “Top 100 Outstanding Women in Greater China Award” by The Chinese Women Entrepreneurs Association in 2006, and was decorated “Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite”, a French national award in 2007, and subsequently “Chevalier de l’Ordre de la Légion d’Honneur” in 2012. She was also named “Top 20 Women in Finance” by FinanceAsia in 2011, and “The Private Banker of the Year in Hong Kong” by The Asset in 2015.
