Mastercard is turning to artificial intelligence to help businesses uncover missed opportunities in supplier payments, launching a new analytics platform that identifies which suppliers are most likely to accept commercial card payments.
Mastercard Advanced B2B Analytics is designed to help banks and their corporate customers identify supplier payment opportunities, improve working capital and accelerate commercial card adoption.
The platform combines accounts payable data with Mastercard data and AI to provide businesses with supplier payment insights in minutes. It uses dynamic acceptance propensity scoring to rank suppliers according to their likelihood of accepting card payments, allowing financial institutions and corporates to focus their outreach on the suppliers most likely to convert.
Interactive dashboards provide visibility into accounts payable activity and payment flows, while supplier matching and enriched supplier information are intended to give users a more complete view of their payment ecosystem.
The launch comes as businesses continue to contend with fragmented supplier payment data and manual processes that can make it difficult to determine where commercial cards can deliver value.
According to Mastercard, the platform can help companies identify invoice-to-card opportunities, streamline procurement processes and assess the potential impact of shifting supplier payments to commercial cards. Configurable value calculators allow users to evaluate potential commercial benefits, including working capital opportunities.
“Businesses today are sitting on vast amounts of payment data, but too often it remains fragmented and underutilized,” said Marc Pettican, global head of Corporate Solutions at Mastercard. He said the platform combines payment insights with Mastercard’s commercial payments expertise to help issuers identify where card acceptance could deliver value and engage suppliers more effectively.
Absa Group and Emirates NBD are among the first financial institutions to offer Advanced B2B Analytics to their corporate clients, according to Mastercard. The banks are using the platform to identify supplier acceptance opportunities while supporting working capital optimisation and virtual card adoption.
Mastercard estimates the addressable B2B payments market at approximately $80 trillion, underlining the scale of the opportunity for financial institutions seeking to expand commercial card usage.
The company said Advanced B2B Analytics represents the first foundational B2B capability in a broader strategy to embed AI and intelligence across the commercial payments lifecycle. Mastercard plans to extend these capabilities to suppliers and acquirers as it expands its use of AI across commercial payments.
