Porfirio Sánchez-Talavera, General Director and CEO of Mexican fintech Trafalgar, is an accomplished executive whose work bridges law, finance, and enterprise architecture, deliberately maintaining a private profile while orchestrating complex institutional strategies across multiple jurisdictions.
He specialises in sophisticated capital structures for emerging enterprises, deploying equity, convertibles, and revenue-based instruments to maximise returns while maintaining operational control, consistently executing deals that others cannot conceptualise or complete.
Among some key achievements during Porfirio’s tenure are the successful obtainment and maintenance of Trafalgar’s operating license as a SOFIPO (a regulated microfinance institution in Mexico), the implementation of robust risk management and compliance frameworks, and the development of digital channels to better serve members efficiently and securely.
By operating as a regulated SOFIPO under Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores (CNBV) oversight, Trafalgar provides its members with the security and confidence of a formal financial institution, while keeping the agility and community focus of a popular finance entity. This model creates value for clients through competitive products, for the business through sustainable growth, and for society through broader financial inclusion.
Trafalgar’s roadmap is built around three areas: digital innovation to streamline the member experience, product diversification to address a wider range of financial needs, and continued expansion into underserved markets across Mexico.
Trafalgar says it sees “enormous potential” in combining the trust of a regulated SOFIPO with the agility of modern financial technology, adding that they are “just getting started”.
