Payments platform Ecommpay has partnered with climate fintech ekko to integrate sustainability features into its online checkout, enabling consumers to support certified environmental projects directly after payment.
According to a company statement issued on 23 July, merchants using Ecommpay’s Hosted Payment Page will be able to activate ekko’s tools starting August 2025, without additional redirects or development work. The configuration allows customers to contribute to climate initiatives such as carbon offsetting and tree planting as part of the payment experience.
The feature responds to increasing demand for environmentally responsible retail options. A survey conducted by IMRG and commissioned by the firm found that 59.5% of consumers prefer retailers with strong environmental credentials, while 15.8% favour brands that support environmental charities.
“There is a clear shift in consumer attitudes to sustainability, but most merchants lack the tools to integrate climate action without adding complexity or friction,” said Miranda McLean, Chief Marketing Officer at Ecommpay. “By embedding ekko into our Hosted Payment Page, we are giving merchants the ability to offer a post-purchase sustainability feature that is simple and impactful.”
Oli Cook, CEO and co-founder of ekko, said the collaboration aims to make climate action part of everyday transactions. “Our mission is to make climate action part of the everyday, and payments are one of the most powerful moments to do that. This partnership with Ecommpay is a huge step forward for the future of responsible commerce,” he said, according to the statement.
The initiative places Ecommpay alongside other payment providers including Stripe and Adyen, which have also launched embedded sustainability tools in response to shifting consumer and regulatory expectations around ESG.
