KUALA LUMPUR, 18 July 2025 – CIMB Group Holdings Berhad has announced a new sustainable finance target of RM300 billion by 2030, as part of its commitment to support clients in managing climate-related risks and building resilience in a low-carbon, more inclusive economy.
The commitment forms a core part of CIMB’s 2030 Sustainability Roadmap and its broader Forward30 strategy. Since introducing its sustainable finance framework in 2021, the Group has progressively raised its targets—from RM30 billion initially, to RM100 billion for 2021–2024, and now tripling that figure for the next phase.
“Our ambitious target is anchored on our purpose of advancing customers and society,” said Novan Amirudin, Group CEO and Executive Director of CIMB. “We play a critical role in supporting our clients on their sustainability journeys and helping them thrive in a low-carbon economy.”
CIMB stated that the expanded commitment would support regional and national sustainability initiatives such as the ASEAN Power Grid, Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), and the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). The Group also aims to help clients manage growing compliance requirements—including IFRS S2—and mitigate business risks tied to carbon taxes and energy costs.
The bank is expanding its sustainability advisory and product capabilities, including transition finance, nature-based carbon finance, and blended finance structures, to help clients align with environmental goals while unlocking long-term business value.
On the SME front, CIMB continues to scale up targeted support through initiatives such as GreenBizReady, which offers sustainability-linked financing and advisory services. As of 2024, more than RM990 million in financing has been approved under its SMEBizReady programme, benefiting nearly 500 SMEs investing in green technology, automation and digital tools.
CIMB is also promoting sustainable consumption at the individual level by offering preferential rates for green homes and vehicles, and deals that encourage responsible purchases. Other inclusion-focused efforts include building financial literacy, promoting scam awareness, and expanding micro investment and protection tools for underserved communities and the B40 segment.
“Our ambition goes beyond financing – it’s about deepening partnerships, creating real value and ensuring the transition is not only green, but fair and inclusive,” Novan added.
CIMB was recently ranked first globally in the Financial System Benchmark by the World Benchmarking Alliance, which assesses the world’s most influential financial institutions on their contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. The Group rose three places from its previous ranking in 2022.
